The University of York campus surrounds an undulating man-made lake. Its shallow depth and startling amounts of waterfowl excrement and various types of harmful algae make it less than tempting to wade in.
Due to a recent missing person search, however, the lake was dredged, and while no bodies were discovered, a rather amusing range of abandoned items surfaced and were stacked along this walkway for later removal. They included, among others, several plastic chairs, two wooden plant pots, and the bicycle and traffic cone pictured here.
I have tried to come up with many stories for how and why the bike ended up in the lake; all, I suspect, fall short of the true tale.
