Our cousine Maria is holding the photo of one of our grandfathers.
A story behind this picture.
In twenties he refused to be a scribe in the village "Soviet", because it meant he will help to send villagers to the Siberia. He couldn’t protest openly, so he took an axe and cut his thumb. When the war started he didn’t want to fight for Stalin and shoot himself in his leg. It was discovered and he was executed as a deserter.
In the same time my agnate grandfather was displaced to Siberia, my grandmother and her 5 children were expelled from their home and escaped from the village to save their lives.
Two years ago we vent for the first time to my late father’s village Lysohirka and discovered some of these stories.
