This black bear cub was playing around in the trees too much. His mother was sitting at the base of the tree, grunting for him to come down. This shot was taken at 300mm on a dark, rainy day at Mendenhall Glacier, near Juneau, Alaska.

Just like a kid to behave this way. I have yet to even get a shot at a bear in the wild. You did an excellent job under tough lighting conditions.

This is a great shot and the lighting was very difficult!! I would just love to see a wild bear once!!

This image has been greatly processed through Photoshop Elements 7 or you would be seeing virtually nothing. It was a really black and rainy day and I was shooting straight into dark trees. :-)

Fantastic Donald. We just had a lady in southwest Colorado near Durango that was killed by a bear, though she had been warned by the Division of Wildlife to stop. She failed to do so and a 400 pound male killed her.

Great shot, Don! We saw very little wildlife when in AK other than whales, eagles, and salmon. There were a few sea lions. Excellent capture.

Great shot! You were brave to get that close to a cub while the mother bear was at the base of the tree...They are very protective of their young...Some years ago I almost got attacked by a mother raccoon at the homeplace of my folks when I went outside the door to take pictures of this mother and her family...She chased me to the house and was at my heels when I almost shut the door on her nose! I am not sure what would have happened if she caught up with me:) Then the picture did not turn out after all that trouble.

Precious shot! You did a great job of capturing the little cub so we could enjoy the shot! The bears I saw in Alaska were too far away to photograph. Nice job!
