This is the second year that my town has held a VERY cool Civil War re-enactment. We have many locals who are into this and I too intend to be in full dress and camping out with the rest of them in a couple of years - it has been on my "wish list" for awhile. However, every year that they set up camp, I am feverishly packing for vacation and can't set aside the time (other than to drive by while running a last minute errand) to walk the camp and watch the battle.
This takes place in a field which is directly across from my house, but is separated by a river and a line of trees. When those cannons go off, the foundation on my house shakes. (I can only imagine how horrid it is to be living under these conditions for real.)
My cat has been terrorized all day.
At night, I can smell the campfires and see the glow of lanterns through the trees while period music fades in and out of the breeze. I wake up to morning drums and bugles.
I am off to Booth Bay Harbor - got a long trek ahead and hope to come back with some pics that are John Linton-worthy. :)
