Ordinarily, the background would be filled with blue waters, green trees, dozens of boats, tour buses...too confusing for a good photo. And we might've given all attention to the lake, and completely overlooked this brazier, with incense guarded by dragons. Thanks to the fog, we focused all our attention on items closer to us, oftentimes ignored.
I used a super-wide-angle lens (18mm on the 35mm camera, equivalent to 12mm on most DSLRs) to get the scene. You can get veeerrrry close to the subject, and the background just falls away into the distance. This is one of my all-time favorite lenses.
