The Mitte district is the thriving and gritty heart of counter culture in Berlin. Once in the East, it's still quite raw as it finds its place in the reunified Germany. But the grungy and sometimes war-ravaged ruins which were used as squats after the 'wall' came down are disappearing as the money came looking to buy the "cred" - ideals colliding as the gentrification proceeded.
This guy and his dog are representative of the brash and disparate counter culture which grew out of reunification.
