Richard Mitchell Figurehead Nantucket

This figurehead is from the 386-ton ship Richard Mitchell owned by Nantucket merchants and built in 1829. The ship made six voyages to the Pacific between 1831 and 1852. The ship was captained by James Gwinn, Henry Cleveland, William Gardner, Josiah Long, Robert McCleave, and Theadore DeFrieze returning a total of 9,477 barrels of oil to Nantucket.
