A broken, rusted window from one of the decaying buildings on the grounds of the "Ladd School for the Feeble Minded". I have described this place in a few of the other photos I have loaded to this site: Tortured Souls Remain, Tortured Souls Remain (Redux), and Powerhouse. Needless to say, it is a great location for images featuring "decay".

The extreme center focus of this photograph is caused by taking the lens out of a Brownie Hawkeye camera and putting it back in backwards. I read about this "flipped lens" technique in an issue of Light Leaks Magazine, which generously published my photo Not Forgotten in Issue 12.

Created using a "flipped lens" Brownie Hawkeye camera and Arista EDU Ultra 400 film. Scanned with an Epson v700 Perfection scanner. No digital manipulation.

What at least feels like sharpness is at the dark upper area of the window; the escape, and my eyes, as my mind, is drawn to this. In that matter the photo communicate to me very well. As for the lower area of the window, it is quite the opposite; closed and horrorish. Like the contrast here, excellent!

The tones, softness and all the similar squared shapes, window and bricks, alltogether a B/W-adventure, I really enjoy it!

I like the -a bit tilted composition, makes the expression more dynamic, and the dark element in the upper left corner together with the brighter right side balance the composition very well.

the technique is incredible. but, the story is what moves me, the story the picture tells. she was tired of it all and she jumped. as she fell, she turned to look over her shoulder. this is what she saw.
