The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a member of the cat family (Felidae) . They are unique in their speed, while lacking climbing abilities. It is the only living member of the genus Acinonyx. It is the fastest land animal, reaching speeds between 70 and 75 mph in short bursts covering distances up to 1,500 feet, and the ability to accelerate from 0 to 68 mph in 3 seconds, faster than most racecars.
