Captured this view of Lago Trasimeno from atop the highest point of its only inhabited island, Isola Maggiore. Located in Umbria, Lago Trasimeno is Italy’s largest non-Alpine lake and played an important role in ancient history. There, in 217 BC, Hannibal ambushed two of Rome’s legions, killing over 15,000 legionnaires.
