Sea Fever

This shot is reminiscent to me of John Masefield's poem, Sea Fever. It is a capture of an Atlanta Ocean seascape at mid-morning on what started out as a stormy day, but ended up beautifully sunny. Yes, I know the horizon is tilted, but I kind of like it that way.

Sea Fever

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a gray mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking.

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.

    Very beautiful image and poetry... My late father would have related to the poetry and image as he was a wheelsman on the Great Lakes before he retired and he saw a lot of water in his life...He lived on ships for 9 months of the year when he was a sailor.

    Don, this is one of your very best! The Masefield poem is perfect. Masefield was England's poet laureate in our younger days, and it is nice to be reminded of him. I think some of his work is the equal of Tennyson. The tilt is a nice feature of this perfect shot.

    A beautiful illustration for one of my all time favorite poems. This is why it would be very difficult for me to live in a landlocked state. A very beautiful shot, Don.

    I so love this beautiful seascape, as well as the poem. I love that the horizen is tilted. Makes me feel like I'm on boat riding the waves.

    This is a beautiful picture of the sea, and I too like the tilted background and also I like how the sea fades into the sky. It is a wonderful photo : )
