I noticed this strange juxtaposition while riding my bike on the bike path and came back another day to photograph it. Why such a blue couch was left behind such a green wall, I will never know. It was an image that I needed to capture on film.
I established a mood for this surreal scene by cross processing the tungsten film. Cross processing this film creates wild color shifts (see Point Street Power Station), but with these already saturated colors, the process actually softened them, creating the style I was aiming for.
Blue Couch Green Wall was was described as an "electric color study" on page E5 of the Providence Journal on 6/12/2008. You can read the article online here.
This photo was published by JPG Magazine in Issue 15 as part of my expired film story.
Juror Steven Holmes, Curator of The Cartin Collection, selected this image to be included in the Pawtucket Foundation Prize Exhibition at 245 Main Street in Pawtucket, RI from May 3, through June 28, 2008.
It was also featured at the 21st Annual Rhode Island Open at the Warwick Museum of Art from October 9 - November 3, 2007.
File Magazine added Blue Couch Green Wall to its collection of unexpected photography as file_2159in November, 2008.
Juror Deborah Bright, head of the Photography Department at the Rhode Island School of Design, selected this image to be part of the 20th Annual Open Juried Photo Show at the Wickford Art Association Gallery. The show runs from June 5 - 24, 2009.
Created using my 1950's AGFA Clack with 7 year expired Fuji T64 slide film cross processed with C-41. Negative scanned with an HP Scanjet 4890. No digital manipulation necessary!

The bottom looks fish eyed! I like ur color choice. Don't lie though. You moved that couch there and you painted the building! jk.
