Wayang Topeng - The princess
The magic of Wayang Topeng, an Indonesian masked drama, began from the very first moment, when this figure prepared to step onto the stage.
She is Princess Dewi, the lead character in the story. Even though she wears a mask, you can see that she is exceedingly beautiful.
I hesitated to take this image - because she was in the dark, at the back of the stage, bathed in blue light.
But I too, as with other characters that later appeared in the story, could not resist her beauty. I took just this one shot before she stepped into the limelight. It turned out to be one of my favourites among some 1,500 images that I took during the two nights of the second part of Singapore Da:ns Festival 2009, at the Esplanade.
