Saturday Shots 28/52
No wonder the English language is so difficult to learn--it’s filled with an incredible number of traps for the unwary. Homonyms like bare and bear, for example, can lead to mass confusion. And as if that weren’t difficult enough, there are an increasing number of slang words and phrases that have come into play. So I thought I would give an example of just how confusing the language can be, perhaps to assuage the frustration of those who are trying to get me to understand their seemingly simple requests for the content of my Saturday photos.
Lesson one involves the word ‘robe’. Simple enough, right? Wrong again! You see, if someone were to mention the word ‘disrobe’ I would immediately have to question whether they meant I should actually remove the robe, or whether in today’s vernacular, they were simply referring to what I was wearing as ‘dis robe’. But to make matters even more confusing, that same phrase could be used replacing ‘dis’ with ‘dat’, such as ‘dat robe’, or even the plural, ‘dem robes’.
And that’s just ONE example! Please bear with me…I’ve barely scratched the surface.
Thanks to Oregon Curly for the theme…same shot, same spot, every Saturday for a year.
