Sunrise at Haleakala
If you love an image (whether it's yours or someone else's) and want to make sure others get a chance to see it, you can “feature” it by choosing the “Spotlight” button.
When an image is Spotlighted, it receives enhanced visibility in premium spots throughout the site. Spotlighted images are rotated through these higher-visibility positions to ensure the best opportunity for the images to be seen by JPG users.
If you see a great photo that would make a perfect entry for one of our Shoot Out photo contests but it was uploaded by another user, now you can enter that photo in the contest and, if it wins, you get to share in the contest winnings.
Like a photo editor, if you've got an eye for great work, find it and submit it to a contest. If it wins, since you staked the entry fee, you'll take home part of the prize (the rest, of course, goes to the member who shot the image).
Collections are a JPG+ feature. You must be a JPG+ member to create new collections and to add photos to collections.

This last trip to Maui was spur of the moment, it was my 7th and every year is diff. I have always planned to go to Haleakala but something always comes up. This trip I came prepared, I scheduled it the day after I arrived, so that I will still be in California time, as I have to get up around 3am (2hr trip). As I drove the dark winding road I was ok, I got to the top just as the light was breaking, and as I got my gear out of the car, I realized I forgot most of the gears I packed to keep me warm, specially my mittens, but I managed and took photos anyway. It was absolutely amazing, everything about the place is breathtaking in more ways than one, physically and emotionally. I stayed there for at least 4 hrs after sunrise, everybody left after sunrise, little did they know that more beautiful things happened afterwards, the rolling of the clouds, the changing of colors, as sun rises, I have to sit down and just try to capture everything in my mind and store in my memory what my lens cant capture. Just absolute beauty, brought tears to my eyes, so serene so calm. I didn't want to leave but I was starving, as I forgot to pack my lunch too. It was the highlight of my trip, everything after that day was just hohum...
