How these birds avoided that name is a mystery. Watching them in the forest is amazing.
I was so happy he didn't have his Ipod on, it looks so out of place in the wild.
The Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker.
Named for the way they make saps out of anyone waiting for them to be still.

Finally starting to get used to the new lens. Still a ways to go.

If you think they are loud in the woods, you should hear them on the side of a moblie home. Maddening! They are so beautiful though. A terrific capture Kevin! A longer lens does require a little practice. They don't let in as much light so you have to use different apertures than you would with a shorter lens.

Quite a capture! He didn't mind you on top of that ladder? You know, with that new lens you could probably shoot from a greater distance!

Kevin, we just watched all 39-weeks of "The Honeymooners" and I can hear Jackie Gleason saying "Bang-Zoom" everytime he sent "Alice to the Moon." Life imitating art, I guess!

And what a great shot of this lovely bird, and a good narrative, too!

Excellent razor sharp image. One of my favorites to see on their way north in the spring. The hummingbirds won't be far behind feeding on the sap these fellows make available and the bugs it attracts. Looks like you have that new lens well in hand.
