Wanted to add this one to the series.
A pretty bird, and can be silent when not banging on wood. They have a stealth about them that makes me wonder if that's evolution's compensation for the bright head. Takeoffs and landings are silent.
They're also calmer than other woodpeckers. They aren't nearly as "twitchy." Even his larger cousin, the Pileated, is a much more nervous bird, and more raucous.

You really shot a great image of this woodpecker...I agree that they are very quiet flying in and they just appear...We don't see them as often as the other birds that come to our feeder consequently, I am always surprised by their sudden appearance ...Thank you for your comment.
