Catching and storing the monsoon rains sustains the rural populations in Laos and Cambodia. Homes are built on stilts to avoid yearly troubles with heavy rains and every home has one, two, maybe five or six of these beautiful cement cisterns just outside their doors. The use of cisterns for storing water is at least as old as written history. The size and shape has changed over the centuries but the life saving contents serves the same purpose yesterday, today and tomorrow.
