In the Templo de San Pedro in Cocula, Mexico -- "La Cuna del Mariachi" (The Cradle of Mariachi) -- a mariachi trumpeter performs during Mass in the sanctuary loft. Cocula, southwest of Guadalajara, is considered the birthplace of the distinctively Mexican mariachi style. The municipality of Cocula, population 26,460, is home to at least a dozen working Mariachi bands.
