this is where south korea meets north korea. this is the most heavily fortified border in the world. land mines on either side, soldiers from the south (pictured) facing soldiers from the north in a stare down, standing in a ready-to-go taekwondo stance.

intense, to say the least.

checkpoint charlie...on the southern side.

i went to the dmz exactly one year ago. now, tensions are close to a breaking point. as an expat in korea, i'm hoping the tension will ease off.

    When I was in the Army (1970-73), an assignment to Vietnam was not as dreaded as an assignment to Korea and duty along the 38th parallel. It was a tinderbox.
