it was in may 2007 in northeastern syria. we were working as every afternoon and suddenly someone screamed about a storm. everybody went to take cameras. I shooted many photos, but this was the last before i went in the common room with the others. three minutes after the storm was in our courtyard and we were all together watching behind the windows. in the room there was a great amount of dust. it was everywhere also on our faces and shirts. two trees were uprooted and other were severely damaged. one week after this storm, another one, but not so impressive (everything was just yellow and orange), hit us. maybe i will upload a shot from this second storm. too

This is a great capture. The approaching storm and eerie lighting really make the shot. I would find it perfect if the branch on the left were cropped out of the image.

Never witnessed an actual sand storm, but I dreamt up one to look quite like this for my latest novel. Great shot.

@ Jeff Bryson: I cleaned my sensor two times after this series of photos
@stephanie: good idea, i'm going to cut the branch on the left.

I really like how the storm invokes a bit of fear but it really looks like the people in the photo aren't worried at all. Its a great mixed emotion. Nicely done.
