It is not a quartz sand desert but vast gypsum desert dunes formed as rare gypsum crystal beds in sand form.It is the largest gypsum desert deposit in the world.It covers more than 275 square miles in area.
Unlike regular quartz sand which gets very hot on hot summer days,you can walk barefoot on the gypsum as it is always cool even at over 100 degree hot days.
