As with many aspects of life, the cow is concidered an extension of the family. A winter cozy home for the cow in northern India is traditionaly the ground floor of the family house.

Gathering straw from the mountain slopes, the cow's food is collected into huge woven backpacked baskets and brought to it by the women in the family.

Himachal Pradesh India, August (Monsoon season) 2007.

In India and Hinduism, cow is considered very sacred. It's worshiped as god. Cow is used for milking, its dung used as natural fertilizer etc. Even when cow gets old, people still keeps it, feed. And cow meat is never used as food.
