Olympus XA, Tri-X
The first photograph that ever stunned me was HCB’s ”Alicante 1932”. In a flash of chain reaction, the time of a thought, I took in first the undulation of arms leading from the upper left to the lower right, then in quick succession the expression of the central subject, then those of the two women on either side, the patterns and textures of the clothes and walls, and finally the combined impact of the three so different gazes into the lens, layered on top of the other elements. A documentary image rooted in its time and place, yet transcending both. That for me is the essence of HCB: The “decisive moment” when light, composition and subject elements fall in place for one fleeting instant, is more than just a great image, it is a glimpse of Truth.

one definite piece of art. in what seems like a long ago era, forgotten already, when we had to pace ourselves in steps of 24 or 36 exposures (lucky to get an extra 3 sometimes), photography was a different animal altogether.

patience played a much more important part of the work...waiting for the light, composition and subject elements to fall in place for one fleeting moment. such as here.

soon, i will be searching out used hasselblad parts and trying to reconstruct a film-based camera with high resolution. slow down, a bit, try my frantic abstract technique on a slow platform, and see how it goes....tribute to the almost forgotten days of film, sans anti-shake buttons and focal point locks and 51 point metering systems that do everything but your dishes for you. such as here...

excellent, this, alexis, again, and thank you for sharing it!

Unmistakable TriX - the sheen in the windows. Wonderful ambience, and is that water trails on the inside of the windows?
