I still feel the same pain whenever I look at this photo, even though it was shot some time in January 2008.

A friend of mine is a Danish pilot who's really into photography told me that he will be visiting my hometown, Jeddah, for a few days and wants to go shoot the historical area, or what we call "Balad".

Core and I arrived at old town on 5 p.m, first thing our eyes got onto were those 2 ladies. The mother was carrying too much pain to be released while she was collecting empty crates for shelter, and I guess that the daughter either didn't know what tough life means yet, or she might have been dealing with it in her own way : a warm smile.

This is fabulous!! I think the daughters smile is a resigned smile. This is life and she is trying to make the best of it. For her there is still hope. The mother has given up on hope. Just my thoughts anyway. An incredible and moving entry.

Very powerful expression, KK. I also like the intense tones and contrast adding more graphic drama to the subject's drama
