Soaring pelican captured over the Homosassa River, Florida. This immediately brought to mind the famous poem by Dixon Merritt (often attributed to Ogden Nash):
A wonderful bird is the pelican,
His mouth can hold more than his belly can,
He can hold in his beak,
Enough food for a week.
I'm damned if I know how the hell he can!

Good Grief!! That is really something to have coming at you full speed. I'm such a coward, I would have tossed the camera and been running for my life! Glad you're so much more determined than I am, Don. This is truly amazing. These birds really captivate me with their "unusual" appearance. I love this shot!!!!

Thanks, Patty! BTW... I was shooting with a 300mm lens, so that pelican is NOT right in my face! LOL

Don your images are right up there!!! Outstanding! This is all the more remarkable because he was going at speed. Superb timing. Have to agree with the others, Avator is relaxed and full of the joys of living.
