Legend has it that the Tuscan hill town of Cortona is as old as Troy. The town was in fact a flourishing center when the Etruscans arrived in the eighth century B.C. Today its steep streets and narrow lanes have a dominating medieval appearance. I captured this shot as I climbed a sharply sloping lane leading to Piazza della Repubblica, the town’s main square.
