The Burica peninsula, on the Costa Rican side. We were looking for La Peñita, a small cove with some fossils. I was with my student and the guide. We set off too late and misjudged the massive tide. As the tide rose, we all got trapped on these two headlands of volcanic scree. The guide on the one ahead, the student and me on the other. We had to wait a torturous 9 hours until the tide fell to able to return in the middle of the night. It was very scary. It was the students first time out of the city and he had a little cry from the fear until the hunger, thirst and boredom set in. We got back to camp at 3 in the morning.
