Before he was defeated in 2003, Saddam was secretly admired by most Asian nations for his "defiance," waving a scimitar for the benefit of adoring crowds, and the international media. To cash in on subliminal resentment of The US, a Chinese toy manufacturer
put out a three and a half foot doll, which sold modestly well. At US $20.
it was too expensive for the popular market in Asia.
