At Redoubt 10 on the battlefield at Yorktown, Virginia. The seizure of the inner lines of the British defenses on 14 October brought the Americans and the French to point blank range of the British forces under Lord Cornwallis in the town below. The French Navy had sealed the mouth of the Chesapeake to the Royal Navy 9 days before at the Battle of the Virginia Capes, dooming Cornwallis in his attempt to leave Virginia.
