Every year at Easter since a time long ago and far away, people think that chicks should be dyed rainbow colors to make children happy. People buy the darling little chicks in whatever color they can't live without and love it til it grows a little bigger...and then??? Lots of chicks with a worn out welcome when the colors fade. I wonder what the poor mother hen thinks when she looks at her "flock" at a petting zoo at this spring festival. I wonder if hens are color blind. Do they wonder what the #(*&$# happened to their babies when this happens? Poor little babies. Kids kept trying to pick them up. I feel so sorry for them every year when I see this.

I am convinced more and more that people are idiots. They are cute the way they were made. Great title and entry.

They inject them with the dye while they're still in the egg, and the color eventually wears off. What a sad practice, in the name of commercialism!! Certainly a tradition we could do without! Voted.

I have never heard of such a practice...Then it makes you wonder if the dye is injected right in the egg ... when the chicken grows to adulthood and it ends up in the roasting pan is the meat safe to eat, (depending on how potent the vegetable dye is and how long it lingers in their system)...Just a thought...Maybe the injected dye chickens are just meant for pets..Sad story...Excellent entry...You have my vote.

A wonderful photo, Linda. But, good grief! What are people thinking when they do such things! I agree with the consensus here...they are perfect just the way they are!

Yea, that's kind of the point. People AREN'T thinking of anything but themselves and indulging their children with yet another throw away fad. The glitz wears off, and then what?? This time the fad is a living thing.
