There is a Moose on the Loose
But it's OK. He only came to get some hay.
He could wreak great havoc if he chose,
From the tip of his tail to the end of his nose.
He could make mincemeat of me if he chose,
but so far he has been not one to impose.
He just comes for some food and to look about
and no one here seems to shout Get Out, Get Out.
"This has been a cold winter and food is scarce
So I have to eat whatever I find,
And this lady has been quite kind.
I really do not wish to steal but I too must have a meal.
I thank you nice lady for letting me eat.
I know you have two horses and two big dogs,
I hope you don't think I would take from you if I had a choice
but I too must eat as spring is on the way
and I think I have children on the way.
It won't be long before I can find my own food,
out in the meadows or in the wood.
In the meantime, if its okay I may need a bit more hay
to last me til the day Mother Nature sends more food my way.
I thank you for my meals so far,
and I would leave some money in a jar,
but I see no jar... so All I can do is say,
from my Big Moose Heart -
I thank you for this meal today".

Easter 2010

Thank you Gloria for sharing this fabulous tribute to the moose who visit us each year. This moose has now moved on, hopefully to greener pastures.

What a friend. A big friend. :-) I know folks think we are nuts to have such wild friends but they have no idea what they are missing.

This particular moose seems to be good natured. I could walk around the yard without feeling threatened, just as long as I kept my distance that is. What I wouldn't give for a real closeup shot!
