This causes me great distress and mental discomfort upon viewing. Welcome to my garage.

I don't know which is more shameful - the fact that this is its current state, or that last year I got a dumpster and managed to clean 3/4 of it out and now it's back to where it was before I emptied it out. The "stuff" just keeps coming! BTW - you are only looking at 1/2 of it - LOL!

This is the result of living with 4 other people, having a small house with no attic, only crawl spaces for closets, a non-liveable basement, having NO substantial block of free time, and an inability to hire someone to do it for me.

I feel that the condition of my garage is a metaphor for what is happening in my life and it is REALLY hard to look at. It's even harder to show it to you. But I feel my showing it to you is the first step to me once again gathering the energy to tackle it. Hopefully once and for all.
Meanwhile, I'm trying to find the humor.

Everyone who comes over KNOWS not to open the garage door or I will totally FLIP out. It's kind of become a joke. When I learn that we've had company or my children have had friends show up before I've come home from work, they always say: "Don't worry, Mom. They didn't see the garage." The trouble is that there is also a door from my kitchen into the garage and it tends to get opened when new company is looking for a closet or bathroom. I can hear that door knob turn from all the way upstairs. I have injured myself as I catapulted across the kitchen, lunging at the door, in order to prevent visitors from opening it all the way.

I had my boss and his wife and some other friends over quite awhile ago and he put his hand on the door and looked directly at me with a half smile. I said "DO NOT open that door." He said: ''Which one? This one?" And opened it in front of everyone, much to my horror .

OK. So I am going to take another picture of this within 3 months from now and it will be clean. HOLD ME TO IT.

LOL at your narrative, but OMG, girl....you definitely need to 'git 'er done!! I suggest posting a weekly photo which shows the progress. That way, you are forced to make changes because you know you have to post a new shot every week.

don't worry, Nat, you are not alone. It happened to me. I got a citation from our homeowner's association. I thought it is with regards to our landscaping. We are required to landscape and maintain our yard. I tried to argue with the management, but they show me a proof , a photo of our backyard with lots of bags full of alum. cans! They took a photo from the back and there it shows. Well, I have to face the HOA members, so after work, with the aid of a single light, I tackle them all (my hubby was on vacation) and took a photo to show. It turn out they just wanted to know if we have ground cover.urghhh. Anyway, I sold the aluminum and got $35.00 for it!!!! So, I like Adniloj advice. Btw, cool entry!

LOL over parts of your narrative, Natalie. This shot sure makes for perfect entry. Take comfort in knowing you're not alone. No doubt most of us have at least one out of control area, in our life, as well as our home. Look forward to seeing your progress in pulling this room together.

Not only what Maura said, but this could land you a reality TV show! There was a radio show in many years ago called "Fibber McGee and Molly." Everytime someone opened the closet door in the living room, an avalanche of stuff would fall out. The sound effects would last about 20 seconds. A great radio spot. Well, good luck!
