Nordic Light International Festival of Photography, Kristiansund, Norway. 27th April 2010.
The festival procession, accompanied by a local brass and silver marching band, stopped at every exhibition to declare it officially opened. This is from one of those stops. With so many famous names, and with so many people interested in photography congregated in one place, many pictures were taken.
Among the invited photographers was Alison Jackson, who makes fake paparazzi photographs using celebrity look-alikes to act out various staged "private" scenarios. "Queen Elizabeth II" on the loo, for example. Jackson's starting point was her own sudden emotional involvement in Princess Diana: she surprised herself by experiencing personal grief for someone she had never known or been particularly interested in. She sees around her an endless need for images that offer glimpses into the private lives of celebrities.
Perhaps the urge many of us had to photograph the famous at the festival is a related impulse.

It appears that there is flourescent lighting in the building, yet you still manage to have the most beautiful light in your images.... please teach me.

The small blue light of the man's camera is such a great visual punctuation; also his bald head is perfection... ;)
