Water bus ("sundbåten") in Kristiansund, Norway. May 2010.
Since 1876, such boats have ferried people between the three islands -- populated as early as the stone age -- upon which Kristiansund is built (current population some 23,000 inhabitants).
Kristiansund hosts the annual Nordic Light International Festival of Photography, which is becoming a tradition: it started in 2006, so this year's festival was the fifth in a row. Nordic Light has already attracted top world-class photographers such as Joël-Peter Witkin, Elliott Erwitt, Chris Rainier and Romano Cagnoni, to mention but a few.
The water bus ferries festival goers and photographers from the main island with the festival office and most of the exhibition venues to another main venue for a few days once a year. But the local population enjoys its services all year round.
