Q: I am really into my wildlife photography but cannot afford a super zoom lens, I have a 300mm and am considering a teleconvertor. Has anybody had a experience with these and would you recommend them?

A: Do you know?

Loving and thoughtful Sasha is my oldest granddaughter. I find it hard to believe she’ll turn nine in July. Just seems like yesterday Fred and I flew from Spain to home for her birth. And what a joyous day that was. Now I look at her and can’t get over how quickly she’s growing up. Part of me wishes I could keep her a child. All of me longs to protect her from the cruelties of the world. My love for her runs deep.

While on a special mother and daughter trip to Ontario Sasha blossomed. Up in that beautiful province she connected with nature, as well as her family roots. That trip strengthened her already strong bond with her mother (my daughter Kim), brought out her sense of adventure, and broadened her interests. Now she’s very excited about coming to Italy with her parents and sister next month for a two week visit. Besides seeing me and Grandpa, she’s really looking forward to the freedom of exploring and playing on the farm where we live and to checking out Italian architecture, especially that of cathedrals. Sasha has a keen mathematical mind (her daddy has a PhD in physics) and her mother’s creativity (Kim has a Master’s degree in English, is a writer and loves the arts). So combining those elements with Sasha’s growing interest in architecture, I’d say there’s a good chance she’ll become an architect. I also see her doing what she can to make this world a better place. She has a big heart and a strong sense of right and wrong. Injustice of any kind really infuriates her.

I captured this candid shot of Sasha between attempts to get her to pose with her sister a certain way for a family Christmas card picture.. No surprise the image used was a candid one I took of the two them playing at posing.

That's my big girl. I'm so proud of her and love her gentle spirit. This is one of my favorite shots of her.

I love this serious pose, which like her sister's, illustrates the intelligence you described in your narrative. Lovely.
