Q: My sister in-law recently gave me a Canon EOS 10D digital camera body. Having only used point and shoot cameras, what would be a good beginners lens to get for this camera? Should I get kit lens to start with?

I join with my friends in protest against porn which I feel should
not be displayed on a family orientated site...We are losing decent hard working members over this issue and I don't think it is right that everyone should be subjected to spotlights showing unwanted nudity popping up in front of our faces. The filters are not always being utilized by the people who should be using them...
If there isn't a change soon we are going to lose a lot more members, including myself. I love JPG and it would pain me to leave because of a few people who are using and abusing JPG's privileges for their own purposes to peddle porn. I care immensely for the reputation of JPG and I would hate to see this wonderful site ruined...I have made many friends in the community who I deeply respect and admire for their wonderful works of photography.
I realize that operating a magazine site this size cannot be easy, however, the only fair way for it to succeed is by respecting the rights of the members who have worked so hard to make JPG Mag the popular site that it is. As the good book says:
"Clothe thee with change of raiment."
It appears our voices have been heard according to the latest JPG
blog and I pray that this will be the solution to keep this a family
friendly site...

Great shot!!! I'm with you all in this stand against the disgusting smut that is being allowed to be posted on this website. We all fought SO hard for JPG when we thought we were going to lose it - and this is how we're thanked. If this isn't resolved within a week or so, I'm outta here too.

1st of all..GREAT photograph...grapling squirrels...super...2ndly...One resorts to such 2nd rate photography when one has little talent, imagination or regard for others..one who resorts to such activities as well as thoughts has indeed an unsettled mind..Whosoever offends an innocent person, pure and guiltless, his evil comes back on that fool himself like fine dust thrown against the wind...The fault of others is easily seen;but one's own is hard to see, like chaff one winnows another's faults' but one's own one conceals as a crafty fowler discuises himself..Jesus and Gautamo said the same thing on many occasions...did Jesus meet an Arhat or a Holy man in his travels and studies...perhaps...they both ame from the same source....

Very cute fighting squirrels! I agree with your comments, too. Only the lowest common denominator thinks that degrading images such as the "Minnie" picture can be considered art. Regarding your comment about filtering, I looked at Fox Harvard's site to see if he's following the filtering guidelines, and sure enough, I noticed that he has several images that should be filtered but are not. I don't want to see those images show up in spotlights either.

Hello there Andrea......... I'm trying to get caught up with things .... I love this photo... but, I am saddened by the amount of our friends that commented here and NOW are GONE!!! I so hope these new "filter" settings will improve things around here.... I'm hanging in.... because I too, would not be able to say good-bye.... I've met so many wonderful people here and have learned SO much... I don't believe I'd be where I am today, in my photography, for it not for such great friends, like yourself, that I have met here!!! We'll march on for the better :~)
