Ronda is a small Spanish town near Seville in southern Spain. It is situated on top of a mountainous plateau with beautiful vistas of the surrounding countryside.
On my visit there in 2006 I came across this abandoned Hydro-Electrical Plant situated in the foothills underneath the town. There is a small river which passes through a ravine which more or less bisects the town before tumbling down into the flatlands below and this power station was built to channel the rivers water through a series of turbines as it made its way down. It is hard for me to describe the setting but just imagine a power station snaking its way down the side of a mountain ( it must have been quite an engineering achievement in its day ) and was a magical and incredibly difficult even dangerous place to try to explore. If you look closely here you can see the water gushing from one of the many channels. This is one place where nature has certainly had the last laugh!!
