Q: What is the best lens for theater photography?

A: Do you know?

Photo license: © All rights reserved

If it wasn't of the 12 X zoom on my point and shoot camera, I would have never been able to capture this precious moment which I absolutely adore. It is a feature I use all the time especially when doing wildlife photography. But I can't wait to get into the DSLR world and with good lenses I will be able to achieve high quality photographs.

Camera: Panasonic Lumix FZ-50

Well, this picture is quite good indeed. Please don't be mistaken: The gear does not make the photographer, you can achieve excellence with a pinhole.

Gear is of course important, but if you are talking about the type of photography like nature or press where the stress has to be but on capturing an instant and postprocessing is secondary a compact can perfectly be the tool of choice, specially if you consider that a small camera has (besides the obvious smaller size and weigh) some added advantages like huge DoF and minimal camera movement allowing you to shoot almost blindly.

You should also consider the medium for which the images are meant: fine art prints, publication in magazines or web sites are very different.
