Why do you have to pass through a Tailor on your way to the post office ?

Why would you need to light a camp fire or at least a candle if you wish to ship a parcel ?

can you wrap a parcel with postage stamps ?

Can you smell the flowers printed on a stamp ?

If you though India is dirty, think again. For every parcels shipped from in India, a unique made to fit white cotton dress is tailored. Then, along every stitch red wax seals have to be hand stamped. For this you need to pass through the nearest kiosk and buy a few red wax sticks, then find a corner maybe at the post office yard and proceed with the melting wax ceremony.

When I first got to the post office with a cardboard box parcel, I never thought it would be more then choosing some colorful stamps to go with it.

However it turned into an afternoon class. First, the cue is a recommendation only. Walk in people will occasionally zap right up to the cashier. And if you don't mind the gap in the cue in front of you, you'll be passed by.

When I learned about the mandatory parcel's cotton jacket I was referred to a neighboring tailor working out of home just across the fence of the post office. Then I bought some wax sticks and was lucky to be offered friendly help from another customer who saw me puzzled. He put together a micro camp fire in the woods beside the post office's driveway.

Selecting stamps can be time consuming, so for that you have to head to the philatelic department. I sat for over half an hour selecting the most beautiful stamps to sum up at the couple of thousands Rupees it cost to ship surface oversees, that is by sea.

Oh, and if you thought India is 'behind' Think again, They issue stamps that not only look good but also smell of the flowers printed on them. or the sandalwood they feature.
