[St. Albans Bay, Vermont, on the shores of Lake Champlain, March 2000]

I was in Stowe, Vermont several years ago for a ski vacation when I decided to take the day off and drive to St. Albans, Vermont. St. Albans was – unbelievably – the site of a Civil War clash in late 1864. About twenty Confederate raiders entered the town from Canada and robbed three banks.

After visiting the local sites, I drove down to the shores of Lake Champlain and discovered a world that seemed frozen in time.

As you can tell from the title, I am applying to the ILMW-F School of Fine Arts. To enhance my application and improve my chance of admission, I am going to include some examples of my “fine art.”

As always, thanks for stopping by!

[I am in Washington for the next 4 days and will not have a lot of free time, but I promise to catch up with your photos.]

You do seem to find some interesting landmarks on your travels and I'll bet this place would have some equally good stories to tell if it could talk...I love the decorative framing aournd the windows and above the door and I'll bet this wasn't a bad looking place in its earlier years. Have a good time in Washington.

Excellent picture, Richard! There is some pretty strange history here in the Northeast - Including Fenian Raids into Canada! :>)

Fantastic... this would do well in the theme "if objects could talk". I'll bet it was considered fancy in its day. I love it!!

I think you're not only in, but you're already out: graduating magna cum laude, leaving behind all the other derelict products, averaged and stripped off of whatever crown they thought they had, and installing your red gas station as a badge of infinite Vermontian superiority. The blue sky is the witness to it all. : ) Wonderful!

My sincere thanks to everyone for these exceptionally kind remarks. I was using a second-hand camera I bought from Damark (remember them?) for $29. It worked well. And I am delighted that the ILMW-F School of Fine Arts has accepted my application. I had to tap a Trust fund and endow two academic chairs to achieve this result, but anything is possible! Debra, thanks for the spotlight! Maria, I have no tats, so I will wear longsleeve turtlenecks and smoke Galois cigarettes. Dana, we try to go to Stowe every couple of years and, when we do, we stay at the von Trapp Lodge. Ah yes, "Vermontian" superiority! LOL. Thanks again, everyone!
