Route 8 West
Southern California
June 2010

While traveling West on Route 8, the highway dips towards the Mexico-US border. All vehicles were directed into one lane and then stopped by U.S. Border Patrol. In the car I was traveling in, we were immediately allowed to pass along with no need to show any identification. The irony, of course, is that although I am blond and blue-eyed, I am also an immigrant.

We must reform/inform immigration policy in this country. The recent laws in Arizona and the customary stopping of cars well within the USA (we were not at any actual border) reeks of extremism.

WOW! So dark and foreboding. And I agree with you as to the recent laws in Arizona. A scary shift to the right...

Wow, amazing that you capture that is such low light. Wonderful shot. The immigration issue is a long standing one. The failure of the Federal Goverment to address the issue has caused a breach in the unification of our country. Now the Federal Government is suing Arizona. It will probably go to the Supreme Court and, hopefully, something concrete will result. It is a complex issue for sure.
