University of Santo Tomas (UST) is my alma mater. I am so proud and fortunate to pursue and graduate from this university.
Photo above is looking in front of the Main Building
This is the University of Santo Tomas main building looking back from the Arch of the Centuries. It was inaugurated in 1927. Main Building houses the administrative offices, some non-academic departments, the UST Museum of Arts and Sciences and three colleges: the Faculty of Pharmacy, College of Science, and the Faculty of Civil Law.
During the Second World War, the Main Building was used by the Japanese military forces as an internment camp for allied prisoners. The Main Building holds the distinction of being the first earthquake-resistant building in the Philippines, a Thomasian engineer’s contribution to construction technology in the Philippines.
The statue in front is of Saint Thomas Aquinas, O.P., also Thomas of Aquin or Aquino; (Aquino, 1225 – Fossanova, 7 March 1274) .He was an Italian priest of the Catholic Church in the Dominican Order. The school was named after him.
In full gear for the coming 400th foundation year, it has been scrubbed and cleaned. The weeds and moss growing within the walls were gone.
From some news circulating around, the Pope might attend and be a special guess during this occasion.
A little info. on the University:
The Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Tomas, The Catholic University of the Philippines, is a private Roman Catholic university run by the Order of Preachers in Manila. Founded on April 28, 1611 by archbishop Miguel de Benavides. It is one of the world's largest Catholic universities in terms of enrollment.
