A curved facade of palaces and buildings dating from the 12th-16th centuries surround Siena's famous shell-shaped Piazza del Campo, known as IL Campo to the Sienese. This unique square slopes down to Palazzo Pubblico, home of numerous Sianese treasures, and Torre del Mangia, the 14th century bell tower with over 500 steep steps. While my daughter, son-in-law, and oldest granddaughter climbed to the top of the tower, my youngest granddaughter and I enjoyed this view and others within Piazza del Campo.
