Behind the corner
This picture was taken in August 2006 in the Mbya-Guarani comunity of Ku'uagy Poty (Misiones, North-eastern Argentina). It's part of an ongoing work on the Mbya people. The Mbya are the last indigenous people inhabiting what remains of the Atlantic Forest, one of the most endangered biodiversity hotspots in the world. The Mbya used to be a nomad tribe, traditionally living thanks to what they collect and hunt in the forest. Nowadays, deforestation and reforestation with exotic tree species are menacing the survival of the Atlantic forest and therefore of the Mbya culture and traditional way of life. What future will this Mbya boy find behind the corner?
