The Tuscan hill town of Volterra is known for its numerous Etruscan remains and artifacts, architecture, rich history, and alabaster. Most recently it gained fame as one of the locations in New Moon, the second book of the popular Twilight saga. In the books Volterra is home to the Volturi, an ancient and royal-like vampire family. As fans of that series, my daughter Kim and I got an added kick out of exploring this fascinating village. I’d been there months earlier, shortly before it was decided to film the Italian scenes of the movie New Moon in Montepulciano rather than Volterra. My son-in-law Max and granddaughters, Sasha and Ashlyn gave Volterra high marks, as well as Kim.

I captured this street scene at Piazza Dei Priori, Volterra’s main square and one featured in New Moon.
