This photo was taken with a throw away plastic camera as our truck passed over the St. Claude Avenue Bridge into the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans on 19 February 2006 (6 months after Katrina). At that time they were saying it might take 5 years for New Orleans to fully recover from Katrina's aftermath. We are now marking the 5th anniversary of Katrina and the work still goes on.

Thanks to Jo Haberman for the spotlight.

Truly remarkable how some homes are completely devastated while others look untouched. Sadly, with politics involved, New Orleans will probably never fully recover.

Great shot, and great entry, John! There is much to be done....I saw a report about it on TV last night, and many volunteers are helping the best they can. Maybe more will give some of their time to help restore this city to complete healing.

I see already, and hope more so, that this image receives the accolades it deserves, and urges the unfinished to finish. Inspired, John.

Wonderful shot, and thought provoking indeed.....I wonder what would have happened had Katrina made a dorect hit instead of just a glancing blow....A tradgedy in sooo many ways.....with all the resources our great nation has, or used to have, its greatest are the people...A fellow who lives across the hall from me experienced Katrina and lost everything....

A wonderful shot of this devastation! It may take another 5 years; especially rebuilding the levies.
