Indian fig

Indian fig (Opuntia ficus-indica) , photographed in Gargano, Southern Italy. Even thought indian figs are widespread in the Mediteranean area, they originate from Mexico, brought over to Europe during the first wave of globalisation around 1492. Ah...by the way, the fruits are delicious althought hard to eat because of the spines!
