I took this picture on Sept 6th during a hike in Dunedin, FL. This is an area that was first inhabited by the Tocobaga Tribe and is abundant with beautiful tropical plants and wildlife (including rattlesnakes). This picture is of a Golden Silk Spider which wove its web from a large tree. It had to be at least 6-9 inches in length (from the tip of one leg to the other). It looks intimidating but I close enough to snap this shot with the macro setting on my camera. I did a little research on this spider and although it can give a nasty bite, it's not poisonous. It's primarily found in the southeast and I think this picture represents the natural beauty of this area, including those creatures that we may find "scary." I particularly find it's legs fascinating because of what I call the "pipe-cleaners" and am pleased that I was able to capture them in fine detail.
