Located at Marlborough's significant Omaka aerodrome is a world class destination for the appreciation of historic aircraft. It comprises the world's largest collection of World War One aircraft and rare memorabilia including a mix of dramatically staged static displays along with flyable planes. All with special effects lighting enhancing the scenes. Captivating scenes depict the aircraft in context, some recreating actual incidents, including Manfred von Richthofens (The Red Baron) death on 21 April 1918, in his blood -red Fokker Triplane.
On one of our last Motorcycle trips we had the most wonderful 3 hours, exploring this unique place. Many of the aircraft are owned by Peter Jackson (Lord of the the Rings fame) He is a major sponsor of the museum.
